Background: Patients with hypertension are a common issue encountered by dentists. Understanding the therapies used as well as their side effects on oral conditions, and risk evaluation in dental care must be grasped by dentists before providing treatment to hypertensive patients. Captopril is an emergency oral hypertension medication that can be used to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Sublingual administration of captopril has proven effective in rapidly lowering blood pressure. Case Study: Case I. A 70-year-old female patient with a blood pressure of 170/80 mmHg wanted to extract tooth 13 because it was causing a gingival lesion in the area of the missing tooth 43. The patient was given 25 mg of sublingual captopril, and after 5 minutes, her blood pressure dropped to 160 mmHg, and after 10 minutes, it dropped to 140/80 mmHg. Case II. A 58-year-old male patient was to have teeth 16, 17, 35 extracted. His blood pressure was 170/80 mmHg, and after administration of 12.5 mg of sublingual captopril for 5 minutes, it dropped to 140/80 mmHg. Conclusion: Sublingual administration of captopril is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients prior to dental procedures. However, patients must always be monitored to avoid adverse effects during or after dental treatment. Controlling stress and pain is very important to keep the patient's blood pressure stable.
