This study aims to evaluate the toxicity of soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata L.) and patchouli leaf extract (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) on the mortality of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana). The extracts were prepared using the maceration method, with distilled water as the solvent. Both soursop and patchouli leaf extracts, at a concentration of 5%, were sprayed at a volume of 2 ml on each cockroach. Cockroach mortality was recorded over 1-120 hours, with observations made at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24-hour intervals. The results showed that soursop leaf extract caused 66.67% mortality at 24 hours, reaching 100% at 48 hours. In contrast, patchouli leaf extract resulted in 66.67% mortality at 96 hours and 100% at 120 hours. These findings suggest promising prospects for future research and practical applications. The study indicates the potential for developing natural cockroach control methods, exploring the mechanisms of action, and evaluating ecological impacts and human safety. Additionally, the extracts may have commercial value as pest control agents or insect repellents, offering sustainable alternatives to conventional chemical methods.
